Joëlle in her art studio in Dilworth

Bio

Joëlle Voogt received her BFA from the University of Georgia in 2004 and has exhibited her work throughout Athens, Atlanta, Richmond, Boston, and Charlotte.  After starting a family in Charlotte and pursuing music as a singer songwriter Joëlle eagerly returns to her art studio.  Her work is dynamic and often focuses on uniting the human figure and two dimensional designs with a contemplative introspection on life.  Sometimes realistic, sometimes more abstract, her art shows influences of Vermeer’s intense color and play on light, Van Gogh’s thick expressive brush strokes, and Mucha’s stylized linear design.  Her Dutch roots interwoven with an upbringing in the Southern United States after age seven allow Joëlle to transcend the expectations of both cultures while also letting their influences shine.  Her work is primarily process based, and large oils often start as small ink watercolors with travel experience, human figure, nature, and textile design all having major influence in her work.
